oh, christina perri. how did I miss this one? being a former "twilight" fan (I don't know if it's because I'm now an old lady but the glitter has worn off) I will admit that I fell under the spell of ms. perri's 'a thousand years'. however, this song - made even better with the addition of the fabulous jason mraz - is the perfect blend of melancholy, heartbreak and yearning.
yeah. sappy, I know. chalk it up to little sleep, overwork, and winter blues, perhaps? too bad.

so of course new year's day has rolled around and in the fresh crisp light of morning I am happy to close the 2013 chapter of my life and put it away. as always, making resolutions come to mind as it does to millions of other people and I set myself up to fail. therefore, I am setting a different type of resolution this year - the kind of resolution that fosters my creative side and will be easy to keep. nothing to do with losing weight or aiming for a promotion at work, but a concerted effort to try to stay inspired. I will spend more time listening to music... spend more time with my girls... spend more time sketching and really taking a wide eyed look at the world... spend more time making jewelry... and taking the time to just breathe.

so I am seriously guilty of abandoning my blog. in the return back to work and the end of my maternity leave and then the rapid onset of the holidays, this little space has been neglected. i'm hoping in the new year I can get back to posting - resolutions, much? watch this space for boxing day and new year sales - they are coming up and you can save big!!! in the meantime, I am posting my favorite Christmas song - a bit of a guilty pleasure - and wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season.

pared down, sparse, haunting. seriously, despite their indie.alt-rock classfication, it could be argued that this song by Dolorean borders on weepy country - Barry (Jack Black's character) from High Fidelity would probably classify this as sad bastard music but I don't care. thanks, Dolorean, for making me want to get drunk in a hillbilly bar and cry on the shoulder of a rugged cowboy.

like any self respecting ex-Twilight mom (I have to admit that the allure of seriously sparkly Edward and whiny old Bella had definitely faded for me long before their inevitable bust-up) I was introduced to Hayley Williams and Paramore via the vampire movie. but I am definitely glad to say that I love some of the other songs that Paramore has come out with since then (and am glad that they have had more longevity than RobSten) - with this one being my absolute favorite. because it's true - there are exceptions to every rule. right?

the mini LOVES the band "the naked and famous". and I do too. however we got quite stuck on 'punching in a dream' (I've posted it here before) and it has been played 143 times in the last few months. however, i'm starting to think that this one has replaced 'punching' on the top of my list.

yes. guilty as charged. i haven't been keeping up with the blog much lately, mostly because every day has started to blend into the next and chasing after a toddler and a newborn is pretty time consuming. however, in my never ending quest for new music, i stumbled upon an article on twitter about a local canadian band called Walk Off the Earth, who's cover of Goyte's somebody that i used to know was the 2nd most viewed video on youtube in canada - second only to the vapid, tongue-in-cheek "gangnam style". (m - i am not even going to link it here because i know you've already seen in a million times)
being a sucker for cover versions, i have to admit that i'm loving these guys - AND they are talented to boot. not everyone can make maroon5 seem edgy and cool.
and here i thought nothing good could come out of burlington.
