oh camilla!

>> Saturday, March 2, 2013

so not only is my etsy BFF Julie fantastically talented, now the world of Grey's Anatomy knows it too!  Julie was part of the GBK Oscars Gift Lounge, and the lovely Camilla Luddington was all over this gemstone cuff!  we all know how fabulous Julie's cuffs are, having already been showcased on The Vampire Diaries!

Camilla has to be my favorite new character on Grey's, and the cuff she posed with at the Gift Lounge totally suits both her style and intern Jo's.  you can check out the rest of Julie's celebrity stylings HERE - and yay for celebrity trendspotting!  maybe one day Julie's designs will show up in the hallways of Seattle Grace Mercy West...

stay. 2 versions.

>> Monday, February 18, 2013

the reason i am posting 2 versions of this song is because i don't want to put too many grey's spoilers for L here. so L, you have a choice. the original rihanna taking a very sad bath version, or the tear jerker grey's version. enjoy!

swans. oh, denny.

seriously one of my most favorite songs - i've loved it FOREVER and actually think this pared down version is even better than the original. when i saw it the first time, it was featured in an episode of grey's anatomy where izzy senses denny's ghost in a hallway of Seattle Grace... oh, how i cried during that scene! (i know you did too, L.) unkle bob is actually a UK band formed out of Glasgow - and i am anxiously awaiting something - anything - new from them. come on, guys!!!!!

the sorrow.

>> Saturday, April 21, 2012

i am definitely not sorry or sorrowful about this beautifully heartwrenching song by one of my favorite bands, the national.  i love the "green-ness" of this video, but the real clincher is that matt berninger's vocals get me every time. (yes, i know, this song smacks of classic Jesus and Mary Chain. so sue me.)

i have to admit that i fell in love with the fabulous scott foley all over again when he guest starred on grey's anatomy this season and last. and of course, as it almost always goes with sweet guest stars, scott met his maker on the operating table. oh, henry.

they played this awesome civialas song, "anything but you" at one point during mr. foley's run on grey's, and now i can't stop listening to it.

(L - stop laughing at me. let me mourn the dude in peace.)

these broken hands.

a rhinestone and sterling silver bezel set ring - a prototype that never made it to the shop but i still love it
for a long time now, i have had some sort of carpal-tunnel-esque sort of thing happening with my hands.  it seemed to have started when i was pregnant with the mini - i couldn't drive for very long without my hands falling asleep.  when i took my first metalsmithing class, at some points i could barely hold the jeweler's saw, much less anything small and delicate.  however, after the mini was born, it seemed to improve and since then i have been able to work without much difficulty, at least most days.  the height that my jewelry table is at allows for proper circulation, but my desk at work and at home aren't, which results in my hands going numb if i sit there for long periods of time.

i worry.  i worry because so much of my life involves me using my hands, and i fear that if this gets worse, that i won't be able to continue my craft.  and since i also use my hands to model my designs, i'd be out a photo prop as well.  (i suppose i could have them stuffed and preserved but i'm sure it won't look good - plus how the heck would i take photos anyways?  morbid, much?)  i know that i'm probably scared for nothing, but it causes me some concern.  it makes me wonder if i have some sort of weird rare circulatory disorder, an oddly shaped blood clot in my wrists, or that one day i'll just sit up and my hands will fall off.  sigh.

i know i had posted a link to joe brooks' amazingly sweet song already - but i woke up with it in my head.  and i love the fact that they used it in grey's.  oh callie, i know how you feel.

capturing the minute.

>> Saturday, October 15, 2011

i am not bragging and not gloating.  i am documenting this minute because it probably will not happen again for some time.  right now, like RIGHT this minute, all of my bills are paid, i have no credit card debt, my kid is sleeping, the husband is not complaining, and i am watching grey's anatomy on demand (why the heck didn't they have it on demand last season?).  see sandra oh in the picture above?  yeah, that's me RIGHT NOW.  without the scrubs.  and the superstar status.  and the hit tv show.

the fear you won't fall. and how i never watch grey's anatomy anymore.

>> Friday, May 27, 2011

L and i used to watch grey's anatomy religiously.  however, i usually am never awake long enough anymore to watch it, and it's no longer "on demand" on our cable service.  so now we just wait until it comes out on DVD.  (or when the girls at work ruin it for me when they talk about what happened this week.)

when i was on maternity leave, i watched a lot of grey's - i am sure that the mini initially thought mcsteamy was her real dad.  i do admit that some of what i listen to is influenced by the soundtrack - there is a lot of indie-rock/alternative type songs that i love.  including this one by joshua radin.  the female voice is schuyler fisk - who, incidentally, was apparently not only joshua's girlfriend, but is also the daughter of actress sissy spacek.  allegedly, their breakup was brutal and spawned a whole bunch of bittersweet songs on the part of joshua.  ah, love!
(sometimes the songs - and the show - are so sappy it makes me want to throw up.)

For the Love of Denny...

>> Saturday, July 18, 2009

my wonderful friend Laurie has been helping me get caught up on my favorite shows, now that i spend most of my time sitting on the couch breastfeeding the mini. i made it through all of the episodes of "Sex and the City" - and the movie - thanks to her! so now, i'm motoring through Grey's Anatomy! i have been an avid watcher since it started (my other friend Vet said that she got addicted because apparently the Sandra Oh character reminds her of me), but when i got pregnant, i was usually in bed by the time it came on.
i'm currently on Season Two. the one where Denny Duquette makes his entrance. oh Denny! seriously, i can't look at him without tearing up. i am definitely NOT a fan of the whole "ghost" storyline the writers gave him this season (the husband thinks it was just godawful and HATES seeing Denny), but just thinking about how much he loved Izzy just makes my heart ache. maybe it's the hormones. i know i should be trying to sleep - the mini is not sleeping through the night, thursday night was definitely a fluke, sigh! - but i'm glued to the tv.

i guess it's better than watching "twilight" for the 20th time. oh wait, i could do that too...
(why are they standing in a field? very unsanitary.)
