many shades of black.

i gotta admit. this song is pretty fine. and not just because it's jack white's "other" band, but because it combines a little bit of swing, a little bit of romance, and a little bit of big band. and jack's not afraid to play second fiddle (or in this case, guitar) here - it takes a real dude to know when to step back and when to step in. 

and yes, there are many shades of black. you just gotta look.

maybe one day...

the other day i was having lunch with someone, discussing what we would do if we never had to work our day jobs again.  it's something that i think about quite frequently - i don't think that i have ever bought lottery tickets as consistently and as feverently as i have in the last few months.  however, now that our nest egg has been reduced to mere eggshells, it doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.  i envy my friends who are stay-at-home moms (or, in one case, a stay-at-home-kept-woman) because it seems that the 1950's housewife inside of me wants to come out and play.  (i do wonder what she would say to me firing up my torch and setting my office aflame... not that i'd ever do that).  alas, i think i will be destined to a merely satisfactory financial life, where i make sure i go to work with a smile so that i can pay my mortgage.
