holiday.

so I am seriously guilty of abandoning my blog. in the return back to work and the end of my maternity leave and then the rapid onset of the holidays, this little space has been neglected. i'm hoping in the new year I can get back to posting - resolutions, much? watch this space for boxing day and new year sales - they are coming up and you can save big!!! in the meantime, I am posting my favorite Christmas song - a bit of a guilty pleasure - and wishing you and yours a happy and healthy holiday season.

holiday time warp.

 

 

i've realized that holiday time moves differently than regular time.  i've been off since saturday and the days are just flying by.  we had plans to go to the movies, to the zoo, to the pool... and we barely did anything because we have had lovely full days.  sigh.  i love vacation.  i just wish it would last longer.

happy new year!

i woke up feeling slightly bad because i spent new year's eve in quite a bad mood.  one of those nights where you sort of wish that you were somewhere else.  blame it on exhaustion, PMS, the mini's never-ending cold (and accompanying puke) or the fact that we spent way too much over the holidays, it still all adds up to me feeling bad for feeling bad.  but its the dawn of a new day, and a new year!  my blackberry was full of messages wishing us a happy 2012, and seriously, we still have two days of holidays left. 

so, today, i'm counting my blessings (oh, i have so many!), and working on the resolutions later.  and hopefully not leaving the house just in case i end up maiming someone.

winter rose.

the holiday season is definitely ramping up, but for us in the handmade business, fabrication and postal service limitations mean that our season is winding down. things are definitely much quieter in the shop these days, and the break is kind of nice. (it's really great to be able to browse with impunity!)

only 5 days to go!

it's crazy how fast the time just goes. i can't believe that it is only 5 days (well, even less now!) until christmas. and it is totally different when you have a kid - it gives you every excuse to pull out all the stops - and the cheesiest ones, of course.   my living room is strewn with wrapping paper and ribbon and glitter and tape, and i still haven't wrapped everything.  my fingers are raw and shredded from the acid bath and my sanding blocks as i get all the last minute jewelry orders out the door. my mastercard is straining from the financial burden i have suddenly piled on it. and my oven is constantly going with holiday baking.

it's a miracle that it all gets done - but the even bigger miracle is having all of these marvelous reasons to do it all.

happy belated canada day & early 4th of july

the photo is of a pair of key rings i made a while ago from these fabulous jade soochoo stars.  i only have one left - i forget where i put the other.

we canadians celebrate our country's birthday on july 1st - and this year things were "special" because prince william and his new bride were in ottawa to kick off the festivities.  not that i'm a royal watcher or anything but it's hard to miss a royal visit like that when it's all over the internet and every media outlet.  secretly, i am charmed at the british monarchy's continued attempts at maintaining a sense of his-and-hers-royal-highnessesses but really, a cup of earl grey tea is a little more regal to me.  that being said, happy 4th of july to all of you in the US - yay for independence!  i love it that there are two very similar holidays in our neighbouring countries that include bbqs, patriotism and fireworks.

happy holidays

some people i know are on holiday the next couple of weeks.  i am envious and already missing them like crazy - funny how your work family can be as important as your real family.  the devilish part of me hopes that it rains on them (the few days i had off last week were almost all rainy) but wonderfully, it looks like the long range forecast is beautifully sunshiny.  a very weak positive - at least i'm probably going to get a lot of work done without my biggest distractions hanging out in my office.  sigh.
